Rua Re-Injures Knee, will undergo Surgery
Source UFC.com
Scheduled to make his return to the Octagon this June against Chuck Liddell at UFC 85 in London, light heavyweight star Mauricio “Shogun” Rua has instead been forced to withdraw from the bout due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair last October after his UFC 76 fight with Forrest Griffin.
Surgery on the injured knee will be scheduled shortly, and there is no word on when Rua will be cleared to return to the Octagon.
One of the game’s top 205-pound fighters, the 26-year old Rua was looking to get back in the win column after his defeat at the hands
of Griffin last year, and his bout with Liddell was just the motivation he needed to train like never before.
“I’ve never seen Shogun so motivated for a fight like this in years,” said Rua spokesman Eduardo Alonso. “This was like a new beginning for him.”
Liddell’s opponent for UFC 85, which will be held at London’s O2 Arena on June 7th, will be announced shortly. As for Rua, he promises to be back and better than ever as soon as possible.
“He thanks his fans for all the support,” said Alonso. “It means a lot to him.”

Brock Lesnar vs. Justin McCully in Works for UFC 85
Posted by MMA Junkie on February 23, 2008 at 8:00 am ET
As expected Brock Lesnar (1-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will likely return to the octagon at UFC 85, and the fight could come against Team Punishment’s Justin McCully (8-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC).
UFC 85 takes place June 7 at the O2 Arena in London, England.
McCully confirmed that he’s been approached about the heavyweight fight while a guest on Friday’s edition of “Inside MMA,” a weekly MMA news show that airs on HDNet.
McCully hasn’t made a decision about the fight and only confirmed that it’s in the works.
“We’ve been talking about fighting this big, huge guy who just crossed over from a wrestling promotion,” McCully said of Lesnar. “That’s in talks right now. I hope it comes through. I really like that fight.“
Lesnar, a former NCAA Division I national wrestling champion and World Wrestling Entertainment performer, made his much-hyped UFC debut earlier this month at UFC 81. Although he’d batter his opponent for all but a few seconds of the televised fight, Lesnar ultimately suffered a first-round submission via kneebar to former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir.
McCully, a Tito Ortiz training partner who returned to competition in 2006 after a three-year layoff, was a late replacement to fight Antoni Hardonk at UFC Fight Night 9. Although he looked a little rusty in the April 2007 bouy, McCully earned a unanimous-decision victory. It was his fourth consecutive win.
McCully was then expected to fight Cheick Kongo in March but had to pull out of the bout with an elbow injury.
