Teammates at Xtreme Couture, Randy Couture’s team at Las Vegas , Wanderlei Silva bet at Ronaldo Jacaré at his debut at Japanese ring. Selected to face Frank Trigg at Dream middleweight GP schedule for April 29, Jacaré has the Mr. Pride confidence. “Jacaré is going as the underdog. As he don’t have many fights he is not well-known but training with him, I appoint his as the favorite”, said Wand that analyzed the best skills of Jacaré: “He has 1,75 tall and he is tall and strong for the category. I said to him to make his game, to make what he knows better. At the clinch, is very difficult to get out without suffer any damage. He is getting better each day and I think he is one of the favorites”.

The Return of Wanderlei

The Axe Murderer is back in Las Vegas. And he’s intent on learning how to wrestle and how to use the cage. What better way to do that than to study with the Master?

That’s exactly what he’s doing. Wanderlei is studying under Randy twice a week in the mornings. In addition to that he will be joining our Pro Team for practice. Despite physically training here for the Chuck fight, Wanderlei didn’t train with our team outside of sparring with Shawn Tompkins. Instead he worked with his personal trainers. Wanderlei tells us that when he went to rope a dope Chuck in the first round of their fight he realized he couldn’t bounce of the cage and counter Chuck the way he could coming off the ropes in the PRIDE ring.

Training partner Phil Baroni says Wanderlei is already picking up some of Randy’s tricks after the first session. “He feels strong. He’s open minded and willing to learn. He picks things up fast.” The New York Bad Ass adds, “Once he learns to use the cage and incorporate wrestling into his game he’ll be really tough to beat in the UFC. It’s an honor to train with Wanderlei. He’s a guy I’ve always tried to emulate and I look up to him.”

Randy says that he and Wanderlei will continue working up until Wand’s next fight. We’re not sure if we’re allowed to say who he is fighting next. But we’re told it will happen in May and it is someone who has fought Chuck. He and the rest of the UFC’s 205lb division had best be on notice. There will be a new and improved Wanderlei next time he steps in the cage. Wanderlei tells us he’d like to rack up a couple of wins and rematch Chuck on New Year’s. That’s a fight we’d love to see.

More on Wanderlei Silva's thoughts on moving to middleweight

Translation from Silva's offical blog www.wanderleisilva.com.br

On Moving to Middleweight

“There will be a fight of Anderson Silva against Dan Henderson that will be a great fight, and if Dan Henderson wins it, I don’t think twice about lowering my weight to fight him,” Silva wrote (and translated from Portuguese to English)."

On Fighting Keith Jardine

“Everybody is talking about Jardine, but nothing has been made official,” Silva wrote. “I think it would be a good opponent because his style matches with mine, and certainly, no one would be a better choice to be my next opponent.“

Wanderlei Silva to middleweight?

Wanderlei Silva to middleweight?

Despite his loss to Chuck Liddell on December 29th, the Brazilian Wanderlei Silva demonstrated a lot of heart and physical vigor to fans, who await his return to the octagon.
Over the last few days rumors have surfaced saying Wand is about to confirm his next fight and his adversary will likely be one of the fighters most linked to a shot at the belt: winner of the third season of the “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show Keith Jardine. To clear matters up, GRACIEMAG.com contacted Wand’s team in the United States and spoke with his physical trainer Rafael Alejarra.
“Wanderlei made the most of his holidays to rest his body and mind. But we’ve already done a bit of training this weekend and starting tomorrow things will pick up. As we only just got back now and today is a holiday here (Las Vegas) we can’t confirm anything about the next fight, if just because there is the chance Wand will drop down in weight. Every fight and adversary is different, which is why we have to wait to define our training plan. If he should drop to middleweight, we will work on his losing weight and preserving his muscle mass, losing only water and fat and not strength and size, since he normally weight 98 kilos. But nothing’s for sure yet, we’ll wait and see,” said Alejarra, who in January spent time in Cuba where he watched up close the training methods of athletes in the country.
